FACTS
ABOUT DESOGEN®
In the
early 1960s hormonal methods of contraception became available with
the introduction of the first Oral Contraceptive (OC) Pill. The Pill
revolutionized contraception providing for the first time a reliable,
reversible and easy to use method. Through the years the Pill has continuously
been improved. Today, it is the favored method of contraception in many
parts of the world and is accepted enthusiastically by doctors and users
worldwide.
What
is Desogen®?
- Desogen®
is an oral contraceptive (OC) containing 150 mcg desogestrel and 30
mcg ethinyl estradiol.
- Desogen®
has a high degree of safety and, like other oral contraceptives, is
99.9% effective in preventing pregnancy, when used as prescribed.*
- Oral
contraceptives such as Desogen® carry many health benefits in
addition to prevention of pregnancy, including:
- increased
menstrual cycle regularity
- decreased
blood loss and decreased incidence of iron deficiency anemia
- decreased
incidence of dysmenorrhea
- decreased
incidence of functional ovarian cysts
- decreased
incidence of ectopic pregnancies
- decreased
incidence of fibroadenomas and fibrocystic disease of the breast
- decreased
incidence of acute pelvic inflammatory disease
- decreased
incidence of endometrial cancer
- decreased
incidence of ovarian cancer
Why
should I choose Desogen®?
- One
billion cycles of use worldwide confirm the acceptability and safety
of Desogen.*
OCs do not
protect against HIV (AIDS) infection and other sexually transmitted
diseases. The use of OCs is associated with increased risks of several
serious side effects, including thromboembolic diseases. Some studies
suggest that this risk is slightly increased by OCs containing desogestrel;
additional studies do not support this finding. Cigarette smoking increases
the risk of serious cardiovascular side effects; women who take OCs
are strongly advised not to smoke.
